The Biggest Prague Lockdown Changes – 5. How to Work from Home?

Welcome to the Prague Lockdown mini-series where I share with you my 6 biggest changes caused by the Prague lockdown, how I dealt with them, and some tips which you can try too. This time let’s focus on how to work from home.

How to Work from Home?

I’m currently out of the office and can be reached by waiting until I get back.

Home office used to be an unpopular concept at my job. But as we switched literally overnight from going to the office to working at home, we found out that we had all the tools to function as well as before. Hurray! However, there were other things I was about to learn.

I started by working in the living room. I would relish sitting on my couch – wow, this is so comfy, why don’t people do it more often? The answer arrived in a couple of weeks – because they fuck up their back. One day something snapped. I couldn’t turn my head to the right, I couldn’t bend over and the only position I could sleep in was on my back staring in the ceiling. Lesson learned. But how to fix this?

After visiting a physiotherapist, it was clear that it was time to make a few changes in the apartment. What’s the point of having a guest bedroom right now, anyway? I found a nice and super cheap desk and an office chair on Facebook Marketplace, set up a proper workstation in our spare room, and turned it into an office. Over time my back got back to normal. And this office had some unexpected benefits.

It helps me to make my work transition. When I sit behind my desk in the morning. Bam! I’m at work. At the end of the day, I turn off all work-related apps, relocate to the living room, and bam! Honey, I’m home!

TIPS:

1.Dedicate a special area in your home for your work so your job doesn’t meddle with your personal needs.

2.Give your workstation a makeover using office ergonomics and get up from your chair to move around as much as you can.

3.Set clear hours in the day for work and end the workday by putting away / closing / switching-off everything work-related.
